Nation Media Group CEO Pays a Courtesy Call to MKU Vice-Chancellor
Mr. Stephen Gitagama, Nation Media Group Chief Executive Officer paid a courtesy call to Mount Kenya University on the 7th February 2020. The CEO met with Prof. Peter Wanderi,Ag. Vice-Chancellor and Dr. Vincent Gaitho, MKU Vice-Chairman Council where they held discussions on how to strengthen business relationship and partnership between the two institutions and how to enhance journalism and mass media training so as to produce hands on personnel .The department of journalism and mass media career opportunities have risen in Kenya since the government introduced digital channels where students can get employed or create job opportunities .
Upon completion of their studies, journalism students can get into careers such as Video editors, Print and broadcast reporters, Photographer/Photojournalists, Camera operators, Disc jockey, Sound technician, Studio technician , Public Relation Assistants, Communication assistant, Website content developers, Event organizers, Guest relations Officers, TV/Radio Host, Media Managers, News anchors, Copy writers/advertising creatives, Media researchers, Social media administrators, Event organizers, Script writers, Graphic Designers, Sound Designers, Film Producers, Film Directors, Cinematographers /videographers, Animators, Photographers among others.
Mr. Stephen Gitagama visited the journalism studio where he interacted with the students in a practical session and shared inspiring insights on how to be the best in the journalism sector
Mr. Stephen Gitagama commended the efforts Mount Kenya University has put in place to ensure that there is provision of quality university education. He noted that both Nation Media Group and Mount Kenya University are heritage of Kenyan people.
The two institutions agreed to co-operate in joint social engagements that will promote humanity.
The media practitioners will also support training through public lecturers, stakeholder’s involvement in curriculum development and review in order to address the market needs. This will ensure graduates from learning institutions are not retrained by their employers
The two partners will also work together in promotion of leadership , conferences and joint corporate social responsibilities initiatives and explore on endless opportunities presented by synergetic partnerships.
