Varsity hosts kidsOR, COSECSA and West Africa College of Surgeons representatives
Mount Kenya University on Tuesday (26th March, 2019) hosted David Cunningham, Chief Executive Officer , kidsOR , Prof Pankaj, President, College of Surgeons , East Central and Southern Africa (COSECSA) and Prof. King David Yawe, President,West African College of Surgeons.
kidsOR is an organization in United Kingdom which support surgery for children. KidsOR works globally, supporting local surgeons with the correct equipment to allow them to care for their nation’s children. In many cases, KidsOR provides the first dedicated paediatric operating room in the whole country.
COSECSA is non-profit making professional body that fosters postgraduate education in surgery and provides surgical training throughout the East, Central and Southern Africa region.
The dignitaries visited Mount Kenya University School of Medicine where they interacted with the medical team and inspected the laid down infrastructure to aid in transfer of knowledge to doctors and more so pediatric specialists.
Dr. Evans Mwiti, Deputy Vice Chancellor Administration emphasized on the University management commitment to invest in health sciences so as to bridge the doctors gap in the society.
The trio were exploring possibility to partner with the University and Thika Level five (5) hospital to set up a centre of excellence for training pediatric surgeons in East and Central Africa.
