Celebration as MKU holds its 20th graduation ceremony
Celebration and cheer marked the graduation of over 5000 students from Mount Kenya University.
The event was held at Mwai Kibaki Convention Centre at Thika Main Campus.
The glamorous event was presided over by Prof. John J. Struthers, Chancellor virtually from Scotland, UK.
The chief guest Amb. Simon Nabukwesi, Principal Secretary, State Department for University Education and Research appreciated the contribution of the University towards giving scholarships to bright needy students such as Sifa Wanje
(The Kilifi-born student who has graduated today and was willing to sell his kidney to pay his tuition fee before MKU gave him a full scholarship) and Milly Nafula ,the “A- Student’ who recently attracted a lot of media publicity after she failed to join University despite her good performance since she was unable to raise fees. She sat for her KCSE 14 years ago and has been working at a posho mill. She has been granted a scholarship to study Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery at MKU Thika Medical School.
The theme for the graduation was “The role of Higher Education Institutions in Enhancing East African Regional Integration” and is in line with MKU presence in the region as it has footprints in Rwanda, Uganda, Somaliland and Burundi.
