MKU Convention Centre taking shape amid Covid-19 challenges
The COVID-19 pandemic era has led to suspension of major projects across the world as construction industry grapples with its impact. This has been orchestrated by rescheduling of completion plans due to delays in delivery of construction materials, most of which are imported.
Despite all this, MKU Convention Centre is taking shape with works going on. The Deputy Vice-Chancellor in charge of Administration, Planning and Institutional Advancement, Dr. Evans Mwiti retaliated the University commitment in ensuring the project is complete in due course. “The construction of MKU Convention Centre is going on well, with major works completed. This includes floor tiling, fixing of windows and window panes, construction of the perimeter walls among others,” stated Dr. Mwiti.
Plans are underway to have the project complete by September 2020. ” Initially, our plan was to have the project complete by May 2020, but due to the pandemic we had to re-plan and settle for September 2020. As at now, the construction team is engaged on electrical works, paintings and also landscaping”, he further stated.
When complete, the MKU Convention Centre, one of its kind in the republic of Kenya will have a sitting capacity of 2,000 people becoming an icon of conferences and meetings.
