MKU Foundation Staff visit Germany
Dr Peter G. Kirira, Director, MKU Foundation and Mr Bonface Joel Malala, Head, Grants Office are on a 10-day job-shadowing visit to Germany hosted by the Bonn-Rhein-Siege (H-BRS) University of Applied Sciences. The visit is sponsored by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ) through the Collaboration for Entrepreneurial Universities (CEPU) project. The project has 7 partners (5 from Germany) and 2 from Kenya (Mount Kenya University and Kenyatta University).
The overall project objective is to strengthen the labour market-oriented approach of universities in Africa.During their job-shadowing period, Dr Kirira and Mr Malala have had the opportunity to interact with staffs of BRS University that are involved in fundraising activities of the University. In addition, they have visited various Germany-based international organizations and agencies including the United Nations (UN) University Headquarters located in Bonn (former Germany Capital City) where they held a discussion on joint collaboration in fundraising for both research and student scholarships.
Ms Margaret Koli (UN-Education Programme Officer) explained that UN University is currently engaged in over 180 research projects spanning the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). She lauded Mount Kenya University for the good efforts made in establishing international linkages that will help the University grow globally through exchange of ideas and access to resources. She intimated that UN University is open to future collaborative initiatives with Mount Kenya University.
In Africa, the UN University is currently offering postgraduate programmes in collaboration with Universities in West Africa.
