Mount Kenya University School of Pure and Applied Sciences is in the limelight following exemplary performance by one of its PhD student in an international summit in Dubai, UAE.
Sani Iliya, an MKU student studying PhD in Molecular Biology in the Department of Biological Sciences presented his research finding in a high profile international conference “International summit on Microbiology and Immunology in Dubai UAE, between April 9-10, 2019
The title of his research is, “Genotypic and Phenotypic Characterization of Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus aureus in Kiambu County Kenya” The research addresses the continued increase of chronic wounds in Kenya, determining the whether there are new MRSA clones in Kenyan by characterizing CA-MRSA and HA-MRSA genotypically and phenotypically as well as determining the effect of the antibiotics administered to the patients on the strains. The study was carried out at Thika Level 5 Hospital and Kiambu Level 5 Hospital. The presentation was awarded the best poster award at the conference.
The Abstract will be published in Journal of Microbiol & Genetics Volume 4 DOI.10.29011/2574-0001
