MKU Tubonge 4 Food Campaign
The Pamoja Tuungane campaign which was initiated by Mpesa foundation and Safaricom Foundations calls on Corporates and Kenyans to come together and support 3.1 million fellow Kenyans affected by the current drought in the arid and semi-arid lands (ASAL). Together with other stakeholders both private and public as well as Kenyans at large, the initiative aims to complement the Government of Kenya’s efforts in tackling famine in 4 adversely affected ASAL Counties – Isiolo, Samburu, Marsabit and Turkana. The intervention is meant to provide emergency food relief to Kenyans in areas hard hit by famine. To ensure more impact, a commensurate action and support is urgently needed which calls for participation by as many stakeholders as possible.
MKU, and MKU Foundation in the spirit of the UNAI SDG 10 Hub on Reduced Inequalities seeks to join in the campaign and rally its members and stakeholders to join in the cause, to avert this humanitarian crisis. The mobilization of support will be coordinated by MKU Foundation and will entail fundraising of Safaricom bonga points from MKU staff, students and stakeholders through the mobile number 0111823728. The bonga points will then be sent to Safaricom for purchase of food hampers to be delivered to households in the ASAL regions.
The inaugural fundraising rallying clarion call will be “MKU tubonge 4 food ya famine relief”. The climax of the MKU tubonge 4 food campaign will be the flag-off of the track carrying the food hampers at MKU Main Campus.
