Mount Kenya University Organizes Free Medical Camp in Mombasa County
Mount Kenya University (MKU) organized a successful medical camp from 26th to 28th May, 2025 in Mombasa county, aimed at providing free healthcare services to the local community. The initiative, held in collaboration with county government of Mombasa and local health medical professionals. The camp held at Tononoka Social Hall attracted hundreds of residents seeking medical attention.

The camp offered a wide range of free services including; medical consultations, health screening, mental health services, reproductive health service, nutrition services, dental care, eye screenings and distribution of medication. Students and faculty members from the college of health sciences played a key role in delivering these services.
MKU Principal College of Health Sciences Dr. Njuguna Wanjeri said that the camp will give medical student exposure. In addition, The camp was timely especially now that Mombasa County is experiencing outbreak of Malaria and Dengue fever.
He also commended the University management for supporting the noble outreach and also Mount Kenya University Health Students Association(MKUHSA) for organizing the camp.
Speaking at the event, Prof. Kirira the Deputy Vice-Chancellor in charge of Administration planning and institutional advancement emphasized the university’s commitment to community service and promoting health awareness across the country. He also appreciated the sponsors who collaborated with MKU in making sure that the event was successful.

Among the key notable sponsors were; Pharmaceutical society of Kenya Coast Branch, Lions club of Mombasa Pwani, Leo Lion club of Thika, Leo Club of MKU, Leo club of Mombasa Pwani, Regal Pharmaceuticals, Department of youth, gender, sports and social services, Amimar book centre, Department of Public Health Services Mvita Sub-County, Mombasa, Tononoka Member of county Assembly, Shifa Chem LTD, Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF)
County leadership and beneficiaries expressed gratitude, noting the positive impact of the outreach on the region’s healthcare access.
This medical camp is part of MKU’s ongoing efforts to extend practical learning opportunities for students while supporting underserved communities.
