My name is Daniel Sifa Wanje, aged 24.I was born and raised in Kilifi County.I am the second born from my Mum and in total we are nine in number. My family is among the humble families in our village.
I completed my studies in the year 2015 and scored a B+. My hopes of joining university immediately after high school were shuttered. This was due to lack of funds from my parents to support me and my siblings who are in high school and primary.I decided to do casual jobs to support my siblings since my father could no longer work,he was suffering from a kidney disease.
After an year of hustling I made up my mind to sell one of my kidney to pursue my dream course,Clinical Medicine since the situation at home was getting worse instead of improving and the only way to improve and fully support my siblings and my ailing father was to complete my education so that I get a better job.
It was through the media that the Chairman of Board of Directors ,Prof Simon N. Gicharu came across my story and that marked the turning point in my life.He offered me a one year scholarship.I was extremely happy with this because what seemed to be impossible in my life turned out to be opposite.I had to turn away those who had come out to buy my kidney.I am glad that today as I am speaking I still have my two kidneys.
My advice to my fellow youths is that one can never go wrong with education.Challenges are there to strengthen and build up your life profile.Never ever look at your current background and conclude that you can’t achieve your dreams.Remember in life we only have two chances; Its either you get up and chase your dream or you sleep and enjoy your dream.I strongly believe that once you work hard, your effort must be rewarded.
