During the rebranding session and official opening of MKU Alumni Plaza, several suggestions were raised and we are glad to announce that the issues are being responded to as follows:
- Expansion of the University Library and academic resources
With the increase in number of students, there was a notable need for more study space. We are glad to announce that the expansion process is underway. University has procured new library books and will continue to invest more in both e-books and physical books.
2. Need for Convention centre/ Auditorium
With the continuous good performance in Drama and Music festival, the respective teams suggested that it would be better if they get an auditorium of their own to enable them have the much needed training environment and also facility that would enable MKU host the festivals. The upcoming convention centre will be the first of its kind in the East Africa region and is scheduled to be complete in September 2019.
3. Refurbishing of the hostels
Completed with additional rooms under construction on both the ladies and gents side. This will increase the number of students hosted in the on-campus hostels.
4. Repair of the Gym and reconstruction of the Basketball Court respectively
The repair is completed leaving the gym as good as new while the reconstruction which will see the court get epoxy tiles and new shade is underway. This will definitely put the facilities to comply with the standard sporting requirements.
5. Water and Drainage
Due to water supply fluctuation from THIWASCO, a borehole was drilled to ensure steady supply of about 10metric tonnes in a day. The university has also facilitated construction of sustainable drainage system that will ensure that the university will not have issues of flood/ storm water and will ensure continuous improvement in management of rain water.
6. Embracing Green Energy
With an aim of environmental conservation and prudent use of natural resources, the university has implemented phase 1 project of using solar energy by installation of solar panels. School of pure and applied Sciences, Department of Engineering, Energy and the Built Environment will spearhead the university in achieving the Big Four Agenda especially manufacturing Pillar.
7. Practical training and research
The University has expanded the network of science and ICT laboratories including the establishment of an i-hub at the 12th floor, Alumni plaza. University is destined to receive equipment that are the only one available in the region
8. Students Health Facility
in line with the provision of universal health care, the university health facility has been accredited by NHIF .
