STEP-S Project Commissioning/Graduation
The Student Training for Entrepreneurial Promotion – Sustainability (STEP-S) project commissioned 122 graduates who successfully completed the STEP-S training conducted between September and December 2024. Graduates were issued with STEP-S certificates certified by Leuphana University (Germany). Mr Peter Muchinju (MPESA Academy Foundation) was the chief guest assisted by Dr. Mercyline Kamande (DVC-ARA) at MKU. The chief guest encouraged the graduates to take maximum advantage of the acquired entrepreneurial skills to bridge the gap of unemployment through establishment of business enterprises which will create jobs for fellow youth. The DVC-ARA on her side noted the need for the STEP-S graduates to utilize the acquired skills and knowledge to ensure they become impactful entrepreneurs.

STEP-S project is a collaboration between Mount Kenya University, Leuphana University (Germany), Godfrey Okoye University (Nigeria) and University of Venda (South Africa). The aim of the project is to promote entrepreneurship skills among university undergraduate and postgraduate students as well as secondary students. The project is funded by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD).
This year, STEP-S project is scheduled to train additional 200 undergraduate students using the STEP-S model. This is in line with the commitment by Mount Kenya University to impact students with entrepreneurship skills needed to provide self-employment opportunities among youth.
At Mount Kenya University, the STEP-S project is coordinated by Mr Bonface Joel Malala who is set to become the 1st STEP-S Master Trainer in Eastern Africa and 3rd in Africa later in the year.
