MKU Journalism students to benefit from the newly launched TV47 Mombasa studio
MKU-affiliate TV47 has launched a new studio in Mombasa.
The new studio complements the Nairobi main studio in news gathering. It will serve the people of the coastal region, notably the counties of Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu, Tana River, Taita Taveta, and Kwale.
The state-of-art Pwani Edition studio is located at the 10th floor of MKU Plaza, Nkrumah Road.
MKU Pro-Chancellor Dr. Vincent Gaitho presided over the launch at a colourful ceremony held on October 30 2020.
Mvita MP Abdulswamad Shariff Nassir was the chief guest. He was the studio’s first live guest at the 7PM Kiswahili prime time news.
“This studio will play a big role in highlighting the issues affecting the Coastal people,” said MP Nassir.
“Mount Kenya University looks forward to mutually benefitting partnerships with TV47 to enhance training of journalism and mass communication at the Mombasa Campus,” said Dr Gaitho. “MKU shall be hosting TV47, while the TV will provide an avenue for our students to learn.”
Previous to this, MKU got into a strategic partnership with TV47 to enhance online learning through televised lectures. The collaborative linkage with TV47 will strive to enhance the university functions.
The studio will deliver a double-pronged benefit: Open up internship opportunities for MKU students, and create employment opportunities for coastal residents. TV47 Pwani is kitted with top-of-the range broadcast equipment that will offer unparalleled training experience.
MKU Mombasa campus has since advertised Journalism and Mass Communication programmes. Training will commence in January 2021. The Campus is the sixth MKU campus to offer the programmes after Thika Main Campus, Nairobi Campus, Nakuru Campus, Eldoret Campus and MKU Rwanda Campus.
The new Mombasa studio is double blessing to people in the coastal region. As a “Home of Untold Stories”, it will be a platform to educate, entertain and inform. MKU has continued to support the communities through the mandate of training, research and community outreach.
MKU has embraced digital technologies that are relevant in addressing the emerging global, regional and national issues and will continue to offer competitive, demand-driven academic programmes at all its campuses.
