University re-opening plan

In a letter dated 17^th June, 2020, the Principal Secretary, Ministry of Education, State Department for University Education and Research directed Universities to prepare contingency re-opening plan. Below is a highlight of some of the tasks that the University has engaged in as it prepares for re-opening.

The University constituted two Health Technical Advisory Committee listed below to spearhead the containment measures led by staff in the College of Health Sciences

2. MKU Post COVID-19 University Facilities Usage Taskforce

The classroom, science and computer laboratory sitting facilities capacity has been adjusted to comply with social distancing

1. University plan to use Blended mode of learning to reduce class sizes and promote social distancing
2. To avoid crowding within the university facilities like libraries the university has enhanced Wi-Fi at the study Villas for students to use in their private studies
3. The hostel facilities capacity has been adjusted to comply with social distancing
4. Working closely to audit and recognize off campus hostels to ensure compliance with social distancing
5. Students will only participate in sports and games that allow social distancing.
6. Signage’s on social distancing and other measures have been placed in strategic places within the University facilities

Provision of clean running water & soap for handwashing and sanitizers

1. The University has provided adequate hand washing points with adequate running water and soaps
2. Alcohol-based hand sanitizers placed in designated strategic points in the University
3. University has installed sanitizing booths at all the entry points
4. Alcohol-based hand sanitizers distributed for use within the University at designated areas
5. COVID-19 Containment protocol being observed.
6. Frequent cleaning and sanitizing of often touched objects such as door knobs, light switches and stair railings with disinfectant
7. Mandatory use of face masks or face shields by learners, lecturers and non-teaching staff
8. Infrared thermometers for monitoring body temperature of all persons entering the institution.
9. Website and  social media in addition to posters and digital screens with information on COVID-19 pandemic will be used to create awareness on basic hygiene
