Launch of KSh 5 Million Alumni Award
While celebrating the Mount Kenya University 27th graduation in an event attended by many people and streamed by TV47, The Chancellor Prof. John Struthers as he conferred degrees and awarded certificate to over 8000 graduates welcomed them to the MKU’s Alumni Association Welfare which is headed by director Virginia Musawe.
“You now join over 130,000 proud alumni of this great institution, be good ambassadors out there and remember education has no end” Prof. Struthers.
The university has revolutionized the alumni association where its now holding webinars, meetups and CEO dinners guided by the Alumni slogan “ Engage, Empower, Evolve,” . These discussions are meant to bring out a vibrant alumni association that impacts its community.

In a landmark announcement, Prof. Struthers unveiled the Mount Kenya University Alumni Award, a new recognition scheme with a cash prize of KSh 5 million. The award will celebrate alumni who have made exceptional contributions to society post-graduation, with the first winner to be announced during the December 2025 graduation.
“This award acknowledges the pivotal role our alumni play in elevating society,” he said, urging graduates to strive for community impact that could earn them the recognition.
In its own way the University empowers the community through the Corporate Social Responsibility arm and now invites its’ alumni to also contribute to the community in which they thrive.
