Mount Kenya University Signs Strategic MoU with CAfRIC Centre to Advance Mental Health Care
Date: Monday, 30 March 2026
Time: 3:00 PM
Partner: CAfRIC Centre
Mount Kenya University (MKU) has formalized a strategic partnership with CAfRIC Centre through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), marking a significant step toward strengthening mental health training, service delivery, and community outreach in Kenya.
Through this collaboration, MKU students pursuing mental health-related disciplines will benefit from structured clinical placements, enabling them to gain hands-on experience in real-world care settings. This approach bridges the gap between academic learning and professional practice, preparing graduates for effective entry into the workforce.
The partnership also emphasizes the development of trauma-informed care competencies, ensuring that mental health services are delivered in a safe, responsive, and patient-centered manner.
A key innovation in this collaboration is the adoption of CITRAMAC™, CAfRIC’s digital platform, which enhances the quality and coordination of care. The system supports multidisciplinary collaboration, real-time patient outcome tracking, and integration of mental health services into primary care and telemedicine—ultimately improving accessibility and continuity of care.

This MoU builds on a strong foundation of prior engagement between MKU and CAfRIC Centre, particularly in student training and mentorship. Several MKU students have already participated in CAfRIC’s professional mentorship programs, with some successfully transitioning into roles within the organization.
By formalizing this partnership, both institutions are strengthening a proven pathway that integrates academic excellence with clinical expertise.
