MKU Council Undergoes Strategic AI Leadership Training
In a forward-looking move, members of the Mount Kenya University (MKU) Council recently participated in a high-level executive training program titled “AI Skill Up: Leadership & Strategy for AI” at Nokras Hotel. The training is part of MKU’s broader commitment to integrating Artificial Intelligence (AI) into its academic and administrative frameworks, reinforcing its position as a leader in digital transformation within higher education.
The workshop was coordinated by Dr. Vincent Gaitho, Chairman of the University Council, and was attended by Prof. Deogratius Jaganyi, Vice-Chancellor of Mount Kenya University, alongside all Council members. This initiative is aligned with the University’s ongoing development of a comprehensive AI Strategy aimed at leveraging emerging technologies to improve institutional effectiveness, service delivery, and academic excellence.

As the governing body, the University Council plays a critical role in providing strategic leadership and oversight. Its core mandate includes formulating and supervising policies that ensure accountability, sustainability, and growth of the institution. The Council’s active engagement in AI capacity-building underscores its commitment to guiding MKU through the evolving digital landscape with informed, ethical, and innovative governance.
The AI Skill Up training program was specifically designed for university governance leaders, equipping them with the knowledge and strategic insights needed to navigate the complex opportunities and challenges posed by Artificial Intelligence in higher education.
