MKU Don attends African Health Agenda International Conference

The Africa Health Agenda International Conference 2019 (Africa Health 2019) in Kigali, Rwanda was held at the Kigali Convention Centre on 5^th -7^th March 2019.The theme of the conference was “2030 Now: Multi sectoral action to achieve Universal Health Coverage in Africa”.

Ruth Mbugua, HOD Community Health Nursing at the Africa Health Agenda Conference 2019 Mount Kenya University was represented by Ruth Mbugua, HOD Community Health Nursing. The Conference was one of the largest health convening in Africa, with over 1,800 participants in attendance from all over the world. Africa Health 2019 served as a platform to foster new ideas and home-grown solutions to the continent’s most pressing health challenges, with a focus on achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC) in Africa by 2030. The conference gave a key opportunity to map a pathway from commitment to action on UHC and to build momentum among diverse stakeholders, including policymakers, civil society, technical experts, innovators, the private sector, thought leaders, scientists and youth leaders.

The conference had various activities which include presentation of scientific papers, plenary sessions facilitated by experts and health facilities visit. The Scientific tracks focused onfour pillars of Universal Health Coverage (UHC) which included;

• Access
• Quality
• Financing and
• Accountability.

In addition to the activities the delegates were able to make visits to various health facilities to bench mark on the health care systems adopted in the country to enhance the achievement of Universal Health Coverage.

Ruth Mbugua, presented a paper titled “Motivational factors that influence the retention of community health workers in Kibwezi sub-county, Kenya.”

The conference provided a great forum for networking and acquisition of new knowledge especially on emerging issues in Africa and globally related to empowering communities to improve their health.
