MKU Pro-Chancellor wins International Peace Award
Mount Kenya University (MKU) Pro-chancellor Dr. Vincent Gaitho has won an International Peace Award organised by the International College of Peace Studies in an event held on Friday 16th December 2022 at Stedmak Garden in Karen Nairobi. Dr. Gaitho won the “DISTINGUISHED AWARD OF THE YEAR”. He was awarded for the years of service to humanity in a positive, selfless and compassionate manner.
“We recognise your outstanding efforts in promoting peace in the world. You have been selected because over the years you have given service to humanity in a positive, selfless and compassionate manner. In a special and dedicated manner you have made great contribution to community peace in your own way,” read part of his recognition letter.
Others feted in the awards ceremony included Dr. Joan Mwende (Outstanding Leadership), Bishop Hudson Ndeda (Interfaith Leadership), Emmanuel Oppong (Community Empowerment), Dr Peter Mwangi Nderitu (Visionary Award), and George Wachiuri (Distinguished Award).
Dr. Gaitho has been the chairman of International Peace and Security Conferences organised and hosted by MKU. The inaugural peace conference was held in 2017 and the 2nd one on may 2022 before the general elections in Kenya.
The university will hold the 3rd International Peace and Security Conference in May 2027.
