MKU student clubs receive cash awards to bolster activities
Mount Kenya University Board of Directors Chairman, Prof. Simon Gicharu has today awarded six (6) clubs and associations each with grants worth Kshs. 200,000. This is in support of creative activities at the University.
The award was part of the Ksh. 3 million grant that was set aside for clubs and associations last year.The six clubs were selected after a thorough review process by the grant selection committee chaired by Dr. Evans Mwiti.
Prof. Stanley Waudo, the Vice-Chancellor congratulated the patrons and students of the selected clubs and challenged them to promote professionalism and creativity.
During the ceremony, the following clubs and associations were feted; Catholic Association (project title, YCS enterprise), Economics club (project title, Motivational talk project), Pharmacy association (project title, reproductive health project), Environmental club (project title, Tree nursery project), Christian Union (Christian Union Magazine project) and Student AIDS Information and Foundation(project title, Slang language effect project).
While congratulating the students, Prof. Gicharu said that he hoped the grants given would promote the spirit of nationalism and a culture of creativity amongst the students. The grant initiative is a first in the country since traditionally University clubs and association fund-raise for their activities through their members. Prof. Gicharu reminded the students that the University is committed to continue supporting student activities.
