School of Business & Economics students to benefit from job shadowing training at DTB

Mount Kenya University students have received the second highest number of slots for job shadowing at Diamond Trust Bank.

The private university whose main campus is in Thika was second (in terms of slots) only to University of Nairobi, Kenya’s oldest public university.

Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology and Strathmore University are other beneficiaries of the programme. The job shadowing will run for two weeks, starting 1^st March 2021.

“The main aim is to provide students with an opportunity to learn by observing employees perform their jobs,” said Lilian Ngala, Head of Human Resource at DTB. “They will get a better understanding of the different roles in the banking industry and corporate world.”

The hands-on experience will enable MKU students make informed decisions about their career choices as well as facilitate bridging of the gulf between lecture room theory and the real world of work.

The students will undergo orientation prior to their posting to various DTB branches and departments in the bank’s head office.

DTB bank is an award-winning tier one lender. It is part of the Diamond Trust Bank Group, which has operations in Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania and Uganda.

The MKU Centre for Professional Development is currently training youth from Kiambu County through the Kenya Youth Employment and Opportunities Project, accredited by National Industrial Training Authority.
