Varsity Boosts Staff Capacity and Welfare
Mount Kenya University (MKU) used its 27th Graduation Ceremony occasion to unveil a significant initiative aimed at enhancing staff capacity, strengthening welfare, and supporting parents with children enrolled at the institution.
The announcement was delivered by Dr. Vincent Gaitho, Chairman of the University Council, who confirmed a series of staff promotions. In a further move to promote staff welfare and institutional growth, Dr. Gaitho introduced a Tuition Fee Remission Policy that will take effect from the September–December 2025 semester.
The policy will benefit MKU staff, employees of affiliate institutions, and parents with multiple children studying at the University by easing their financial burden, expanding access to higher education while fostering loyalty and community within the MKU family.
One of the beneficiaries, Ann Kamore, a graduate from the School of Education, welcomed the announcement, saying: “As a parent who has just graduated with a degree, I can now advance to study for my master’s programme while still paying fees for my son, who is pursuing Medicine and Surgery. This announcement is a relief and feels like a graduation gift from the University. Long live Mount Kenya University, my school.”

Prof. John Struthers, Chancellor of Mount Kenya University, commended the institution’s remarkable growth, global partnerships, and impact-driven innovations during the event. Having served as Chancellor for eight years, Prof. Struthers noted that he has witnessed “steady and remarkable growth” positioning MKU for an even brighter future.
Echoing this sentiment, Prof. Deogratius Jaganyi, MKU’s Vice-Chancellor, underscored the University’s commitment to staff development:
“It’s important to us that our staff grow as the University grows. We also support our staff to attend training, workshops, and seminars with the aim of acquiring new knowledge and skills.”
