Eighty one (81) students have been selected as the beneficiaries of the competitive Mount Kenya University Internal Scholarship Fund that was awarded through the University Foundation. A total of 531 applications were received in July this year and were vetted by the University Scholarship Vetting Committee. The students are drawn from all the schools and campuses. The scholarships vetting committee considered several aspects key amongst them the academic performance of the applicants and the evidence of need. The scholarships were offered under four (4) categories namely;
- Persons Living With Disabilities (PLWDs),
- Orphaned students,
- Students with special talents, and
- General category.
The call for internal scholarships is an annual programme that is sponsored to a tune of Ksh 5,000,000 through the University Foundation. The scholarship covers a period of one semester. Dr. Peter G. Kirira, the Foundation Director is optimistic that these scholarships will assist some of the needy students to continue with their studies. The Foundation is also establishing an endowment fund that will ensure that the programme is sustainable.
