MKU and Women Enterprise Fund partner to boost female entrepreneurs
Mount Kenya University on 12th February, 2021 signed an MoU with Women Enterprise Fund (WEF) aimed at providing capacity building through conducting trainings and mentorship to WEF beneficiaries.
MKU Graduate Enterprise Academy (GEA) alumni are set to reap in bound as WEF will provide them with access to financial support and funds to boast their business venture. GEA is a business incubation initiative of Mount Kenya University where they train graduates on starting and running successful businesses.
Women Enterprise Fund (WEF) which is fully funded by the Exchequer, is a Semi-Autonomous Government Agency in the Ministry of Public Service and Gender established in 2007 to provide accessible and affordable credit to support women start and/or expand business for wealth and employment creation. Currently WEF loan kitty is Kshs. 20 billion, which is used to fund women entrepreneurs.
As part of this partnership, the two institutions will carry out joint training and coaching in MKU’s Graduate Enterprise Academy (GEA) and WEF initiatives & joint networking and mentoring of both MKU’s GEA and WEF beneficiaries.
Through this partnership, the two institutions will greatly contribute to a wealth of knowledge beneficial to women in business. On the other hand, WEF’s subsidized loans will financially empower graduate trainees to meet their business goals. For more information visit WEF website www.wef.co.ke.
In addition to GEA which focusses on alumni, Mount Kenya University also trains its’ students on entrepreneurship through Student Training for Entrepreneurial Promotion (STEP) Program which equips them with action based knowledge on instructions to do things to be successful in entrepreneurship
