Nursing lecturer adopt new teaching approach
Dr. Nilufa Jivraj Shariff, PhD has adopted a new teaching method which she is applying in the new class of nursing students who are pursuing Master of Science in Nursing at Main Campus Thika.
This model involves students developing posters as part of their learning for the unit “Advanced Theoretical Concepts in Clinical Care”. The students are then required to present their work in a seminar in class where fellow students are the listeners and judge of the presentation method and quality of the poster presentation.
At the nursing class, this innovative learning activity includes selecting a nursing theory, synthesizing and summarizing the concepts, developing a poster and succinctly presenting the nursing theory to the class and selecting the best posters. This unit is aimed at achieving the broad programme objectives that includes, “To broaden the ability of the graduate in the utilization of the relevant concepts and theories in delivery of health care” and “To facilitate the graduates’ ability to critically evaluate and apply research findings to promote evidenced based practice in the relevant speciality areas.
