Equity Group CEO visits MKU
Equity Group Chief Executive Officer Dr. James Mwangi visited Mount Kenya University, Thika Main Campus on the afternoon of September 3, 2019. He paid a courtesy call on the Chairman, Board of Directors Prof. Simon Gicharu, and to the office of the Vice-Chancellor Prof. Stanley Waudo.
Equity Bank and MKU share a common vision of supporting societal change through education, youth empowerment and enterprise development. Their partnership began more than two decades ago, when Equity operated as a Building Society, while MKU was a fledging commercial college. The bank has been instrumental in the growth and success of the university. In 2005, Dr Mwangi was the chief guest at the official opening of the university’s Olympic-size swimming pool at Thika Main Campus. It is one of the key sporting facilities.
Dr Mwangi visited MKU’s green energy solar project on the roof top of the Alumni Plaza. He also toured the site of the ongoing construction of the MKU Convention Centre. Dr Mwangi capped his visit by planting a commemorative tree near the university library’s study villas.
Equity Group, just like MKU, has a footprint throughout East Africa. Dr. Mwangi and Prof. Gicharu hailed the strong partnership between the two institutions.
