Mount Kenya University will always comply with Legal Provisions Governing Operations of Universities
Prof. Stanley Waudo, Vice-Chancellor, Mount Kenya University (MKU) at a colorful inauguration ceremony of new Student Governing Council headed by Martin Owillah, the President of the Council held on 10th February, 2017 asserted:
“A conducive learning environment must have facilities, services and security that meet required standards and society’s expectations. Mount Kenya University (MKU) will continuously improve its facilities and services. The University will do so in compliance with the relevant legal provisions governing universities”.
Prof. Waudo observed that the inauguration of the 16th Student Governing Council confirmed the university commitment to complying with the relevant legal provisions on university governance organs. As regards the role of the Student Governing Council in management of the University, Prof. Waudo said: “The Student Governing Council oversees students’ activities in consultation with the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Student Welfare and Alumni Affairs and Dean of Students. It also draws the attention of the management on matters affecting the well-being of students for consideration and necessary action”.
Prof. Waudo urged the in-coming Student Governing Council to always be transparent and accountable in their daily operations. He advised the officials to embrace dialogue and seek guidance whenever need arises. The Universities (Amendment) Act 2016 requires that new academic programmes be approved by the Commission for University Education (CUE) before mounting. “The University (MKU) will also comply with this new provision,” Prof. Waudo declared.
As regards security, Prof. Waudo said the introduction of biometric registration is designated to improve staff and student biodata management and to enhance security”.
